Busy Hands

25 Oct

Although I haven’t much energy, my hands have found plenty to keep busy with! When I came home, I had several purchases on eBay and Etsy to mail. That is when I realized my inventory is down again! I was looking forward to spending several weeks doing ‘fun’ projects before getting back to ‘work’! 🙂  Oh, I don’t really mind crocheting hair nets at all, it’s just that doing the same thing over and over and over, gets a little old sometimes.

Between crocheting hair nets, though, I have snuck in some other projects. I have an afghan I have been working on. I tried to make a goal of doing 3 rows a day so it doesn’t take me a year to get it done! I have also started a new project on my new knitting loom, but I’ll wait to tell you about that til after the Christmas presents are given. 😉  The other day I also made a card for someone. It seems like such a little thing, but it’s so amazing how much energy those little things take, when you just have. no. energy.

Time seems to be moving rather slowly.  Looking back it seems I was in the hospital a long time.  It has some kind of dream quality where every day blended into the next.  Now it seems I have been home a long time.  Is it really just 7 days?  The days themselves don’t feel long though.  That is a blessing.  Until I get all my meds in, rest, eat, crochet a bit….  Not much time left.  Everything seems to take a long time since I have so little energy.  I am so thankful for the things I can do.  I thank the Lord for the ability to crochet and do other hand work even when I can’t do much else.

I have managed to list some items on eBay and Etsy again, too. Yesterday I listed this set of 3 hair nets on eBay and I hope to get it on Etsy soon, too.  There is one Burgundy, one gray, and one white.  As always, you save a bit of money by buying a set of 3! 🙂

New Hair Net Listing

6 Sep

I created a new listing for my large hair nets on eBay. After getting several requests from customers about other colors and/or quantities, I wondered how many customers didn’t buy because they didn’t want to bother with a special request.  Now it is very simple to order your large hairnet through a fixed price listing offering the choice of net style or flower style. You can also choose from one of the basic colors: black, brown, natural, and white.  I will still continue to list auctions for the large style, to gain more exposure.

Check out the new listing here!

Talents

4 Sep

I have crocheted so many hair nets sometimes I seldom think of it as anything special. Anyone could do the same.

Today I saw someone on eBay left this comment in my feedback: praise God for your talent.

That simple statement made me stop and think awhile. Actually I thought about it several times today.

It was a great reminder to me to remember that anything I can do is a talent from God and I should always praise and thank Him for it!

Thank-you to my customer who gave me this reminder! (even if unintended)

Work in Progress

30 Aug

I enjoy variety, but sometimes it just feels like I have a LOT of stuff going. Recently I read an article on Homemadeology that inspired me to try to manage my time better. Basically I found a daily planner here and decided to try to structure my days a bit better. It’s fun when I can get everything done, but gets a bit overwhelming when I see how much I don’t get done. Here is a bit of a picture of some of the projects I have started.Towels. I ‘went shopping’ in our upstairs / loft and found some fabric to use for my towels. I looked at WalMart twice to find fabric to match my red towels, but never found anything I thought was good enough. My next plan was Joann’s. In the meantime, I thought, why not look through our stuff at home…. I am doing some with a more western/Indian theme, hoping to sell them locally. I found some vintage-looking stuff I decided to use. I also found one that I like, but not sure if anyone else will. It is the one on the left in the following picture. Beings I already cut it I’m not sure what else I can do with it, but I can’t decide if I should put it on the red towel or a black one. I was going to put the blue top on the light brown towel, but I may have chickened out.Bags. I have been slowly working on those as I have time. They are a nice sewing project that doesn’t require much energy, which is nice right now. Hair Nets. Awhile ago I posted that I crocheted a bunch of inventory hair nets. At the end of July, it seemed someone turned on a switch and I started getting sales again!! The funny thing though is that customers rarely purchase the color that is well stocked. 🙂 So I am still crocheting hair nets! Don’t get me wrong, I love the sales and I really don’t care what color they are and it’s no incovenience to make new ones! 😉Me. I am always a “work in progress” 🙂 but just now I feel more so as a head cold / sore throat has caught hold of me. It really made rounds in our family so I’m not terribly surprised I got it, I’m just hoping to keep it from settling in my chest. I retired to my recliner yesterday, but have been feeling a lot better today. I still am contenting myself mostly with hand work though. Like sewing buttons on towels and crocheting hair nets. I just got a bunch of buttons from Supplies From Me to You, a local etsy shop. They are very nice and I got excellent service! If you are wondering why all these towels are dark/black, it’s because I did all the dark ones first so I wouldn’t have to change my sewing machine thread.  🙂

That pretty much sums it up. Except for reading my books! 🙂 I don’t consider that work though so I decided not to include it in this list. What projects have you been working on?

Crocheting Inventory

2 Aug

Otherwise known as recuperating from illness! 🙂When I got sick last week, I decided to see how much of this:I could turn into this:The result is that I have lots of “inventory” hair nets now. 😉 That’s always good as I have already been caught not having a particular hair net made.  This isn’t usually a problem as I can made them up in an hour or two, but it always feels better to be a step ahead. I have been doing other projects as well, to save my hands and to keep from going “crazy”! I get really sick of doing the same thing over and over. As usual my stack of books has been rather distracting! I also got out a baby afghan I started a long time ago and finished that the other day. That was fun! I started another blanket yesterday so who knows how long that will take. The problem with alternating projects like that is that I try to crochet loose for the blankets and then my hair nets start getting bigger, too, as I am still in that mode. So I have to remember to switch modes in my head and my fingers!

Purple, Purple, and More Purple… and Black

6 Dec

Thanksgiving weekend I got an order for 9 purple hair nets! 🙂 I had one done, so I sat down and made 8 more purple hair nets! I must admit I was a bit purpled-out by the time I was done.

Right now I have an order for 4 large hair nets -all black! I had one made and I made one yesterday so I only have 2 more to make, and one more for inventory.

I have another purple one available here. And a black one coming soon. In the mean time you can check out my brown and white ones.

New Treasury List

Cozy Blanket on a Dreary Day!

I had fun making another treasury list on Etsy.com. This one is full of cozy crocheted blankets.

Old Congress Days

3 Oct

The big day is past now! I set up a booth at the local Old Congress Days event. It was a lot of fun even though I didn’t sell all that much. Mom & Dad were there to help – I couldn’t have done it with out them!

I had a bunch of the hanging hand towels on display. And I had the big doily out.The table above held greeting cards and denim blankets. On the other table I had my doilies, hairnets, and baby hats & booties.

Here are some of my doilies. This table met with disaster, well all of them did, but the white doilies got the worst of things. In the afternoon we got wind and a dust storm. Everything started flying. We took our stuff down early and lots of others did, too. Everyone was hanging onto their tents so they wouldn’t go crashing around. The lady behind me had a rough time as she was selling Scentsy -lots of breakables! While Mom & Dad finished our booth, I helped them box up the warmers.

Since I didn’t sell much at Congress Days, I now have all this inventory for my online stores! I hope to get it posted in the next couple weeks.

Blogging Vacation

22 Aug

Last week I took an unplanned blogging vacation! That doesn’t mean I wasn’t busy though! Two doctor appointments took up quite a bit of time, plus getting more (*hopefully*) done here at home. I did get my desk cleaned up, my inventory hair nets and doilies organized, some booking keeping done, some sewing, and crocheting of course.

Now I am trying to come up with a blogging schedule that won’t be so overwhelming. I was trying to post every day and for now I will only be posting 3 times a week or less. The main reason for that is because I signed up to be a vendor at a local event: Old Congress Days. So now I am crocheting furiously to make sure I have enough stuff to display. 🙂 I’m sure it will be ok, I’m just stressing. I plan to have my crocheted hair nets and doilies there and some hanging hand towels. Mom is also working on some sewing projects to add to this collection. I was hoping to have a finished denim blanket, but we will see…

That event is October 1, so this is what I will be working on the next month. I am also working on school dresses for my niece. Two nieces in school! I really am getting old……… 🙂

Here are a few things I got listed on Etsy Last week:

Greeting Card Printable PDF Prickly Pear Cactus Hearts 3 Thi…
This is the third printable greeting card with prickly pear cactus in the picture. This is one of my favorites.

Doily Tablecloth 26″ Cotton Natural Color HandCrochete…

I finally got this huge doily done! I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to sell it or not, but here it is. It measures about 26″ across. Perfect for a small end table or as a centerpiece on a large table.

Hair Net / Bun Cover Crocheted Brown Flower Style Amish Menn…

I listed the brown hair net again as it had sold awhile ago.

Be sure and visit my shop and browse all the items! 🙂

Crochet Sock Pattern

Crochet Sock Pattern

Socks are a quick useful project, especially in winter time. I use up my scrap yarns for these socks. They are very comfortable and wash and wear very nicely.

This is how I make ladies’ size socks. Play around with increasing and decreasing to adjust the size. Here is how I do mine:

 Supplies:

Size I Crochet hook

About 1 skein of worsted weight yarn

Pattern Notes:

I used the “dc 2 together” as a decreasing stitch on round 16. Here is how to use it (it uses the next 2 sts):

To dc2tog – *YO, insert hook in next st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, draw through two loops*, repeat from * to * once, YO, and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Foot:

Rnd 1: Starting at toe, ch 3, 11 dc in third ch from hook, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (12 dc made)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around, join. (18 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, (dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join. (24 dc)

Rnd 4-5: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join.

Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, (dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join. (30 dc)

Rnd 7-11: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join. Fasten off.

 Heel:

Row 8: Working in rows, for heel, skip first 22 sts, join with sc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts leaving remaining sts unworked, turn. (19 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in last st, sc in next unworked st on rnd 7, turn. (20 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of last 2 sts, sc in next unworked st on rnd 7, turn. (21 sts)

Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each of first 3 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of last 2 sts, sc in next unworked st on rnd 7, turn. (22 sts)

Row 12: Ch 1, sc in each of first 3 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of last 3 sts, sc in next unworked st on rnd 7, turn. (23 sts)

Row 13: Ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of last 3 sts, sc in next unworked st on rnd 7, turn. (24 sts)

Rnd 14: Working in rounds, ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 12 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of last 4 sts, sc in remaining 6 sts on rnd 7, join with sl st in first sc, turn. (30 sts)

 Leg:

Rnd 15: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join. (30 dc)

Rnd 16: Ch 2, dc in each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, (dc in each of next 3 sts, dc2tog) around. (24 dc)

Rnd 17-22: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join. (24 dc)

Rnd 23: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch2, (sc in next st, ch 2) around, join. Fasten off.

 Make 2

Caring for your socks. I just throw them in the washer with other like colors. I usually line-dry mine. The tops get a little stretched out when I wear them, but they come out of the wash back to normal size!

I am making this pattern available to you to be used for personal and charity use only. Please don’t sell the pattern. It is okay to sell the finished product at craft shows (not online), ect. If you have any questions about the pattern or about permission to use it please ask me! Thank-you!

Hair Net Deal

28 Jul

I listed a set of 3 hair nets / bun covers in my Etsy shop. This listing is designed to save you a bit of money! If I list a set, my fees are lower and therefore I am able to reduce the price per piece a bit.

This set includes one each of my three most common colors:  Black, Brown, and White. All three are made in the flower style. Go on over to my store to check it out!

Crocheting in Sickness and in Health

21 Jul

One reason I love to crochet is because I can do it while I am sick. It gives me something to do with my hands (keeping my mind occupied) and keeps me from feeling completely useless! Of course it’s much more fun when I feel well, but I still enjoy it all the time.

Here are some things I have been working on the last week and a half or so while I haven’t been feeling good:

Crocheted Rose

I wasn’t completely satisfied with my rose, because I didn’t think it rolled very nice. I need to keep practicing that one!

Crocheted Socks

I love making socks because it seems like something more useful that people could actually use. This pair is for me; I wanted to see how they wear and how they wash. They turned out pretty good! The drawback with socks is that the yarn makes my hands really sore.

Besides this I am still working on my baby afghan and also on baby hats and booties. I love doing the hats and booties because they are so cute and don’t take long. I usually have a short attentions span when not feeling well. I’ll try to tell you more about the patterns I use in another post.

I have also worked some on my “Big Project”.

Lovely as a Rose

14 Jul

I made an Etsy treasury list today! It took a long time, but it turned out pretty. It took longer because about halfway through I lost it and had to start over! 😦

You can view it here: Lovely as a Rose

Wish I could crochet such beautiful stuff! 🙂

Let me know what you think!

My Big Project

8 Jul

My Big Project for the Summer

I got this ball of natural colored size 10 crochet thread – 1,000 yards – to make hair nets. (Because they were selling so well at the time, I figured I’d use it all eventually – like the white one I have.) Even before that, I had been dreaming of making a huge doily slash tablecloth. This ball of thread sat around for a couple of days, still new. That’s when I decided to use it for a table cloth instead of hair nets. (That’s why you don’t see many for sale!) The thought was, since the ball of thread is still new, it would be a test to see how big a thing I could make out of a 1000 yards!   🙂    Yeah, I have funny ideas sometimes.

This doily / table cloth is turning out pretty well, I think. On the latest pictures you can see it ‘ruffles’ at the edges. It’s not supposed to do that, but I think it will work out as I go on. At least earlier ruffles did.

I have been working on it for at least a month now! In my free time of course. Every once in a while I need a break from my work! 🙂

I forgot to mention: I don’t have a pattern for this huge doily! Am I crazy? Yes, I am making it up as I go. I have made some doilies in a much smaller version so I took that pattern (also made by me) and went on from there.

So here are the current pictures. I actually have two sets because I took them and intended to post them and didn’t get it done so I have more now. That way you can see a bit of the progress. Sorry about the funny color. My bedroom lighting does that to pictures for some reason.

Those were the first pictures. These last three were taken about two weeks later.

Shall I keep going? Or quit now? 🙂

Hair Net / Bun Cover Pictures

7 Jul

A couple of weeks ago someone asked me for pictures of the hair nets actually modeled on hair. These pictures are the result! I asked my sisters to take pictures of their girls wearing the bun covers. (I don’t think the girls were too impressed). Thanks, ladies!  I couldn’t decide which pictures to use because they are all so cute so here is almost all of them! 🙂 It’s kinda scary how it makes the girls look so grown up! Am I getting old?!

As always you can find these hair nets / bun covers on both eBay and Etsy

Holiday & New eBay listings

4 Jul

Hello! I hope had a great weekend and are enjoying a relaxing day! I had a nice weekend. Yesterday was a blessing to be in church and to fellowship with Christian friends. Last night we were also blessed with a wonderful rain shower!! We here in AZ love rain showers as they don’t come very often. When we saw it was probably going to rain, my brother and I took our hammocks out to the front porch (it has a roof over it). It was so much fun to lay there and enjoy the rain and the lightening. It did get really windy though and we came running in when we started getting soaked! I realize though that many parts of the US won’t call a rain shower a blessing as they have ‘too much’ water.

I didn’t do anything to celebrate the holiday today, but I did have fun working on different projects around the house in a relaxed frame of mind. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my projects done, so I can’t really say I did much! I cut out a bag I’ve been wanting to make. Actually, I cut out a practice, because I don’t want to use the material I have picked out until I know if my idea is going to work.

I have really been into bags lately. I made one for my sister-in-law for her baby shower. I planned to do a game involving a diaper bag, however I had no diaper bag to use!! So I quickly threw together a simple bag here about the day before the party. Then I made her little girl a matching one for her 5th birthday. Sorry I don’t have pictures to show you. I will take pictures of this one I am making now, if it turns out ok. 🙂

When I was done with that, I sat down at my sewing machine for about 2 minutes and decided I didn’t feel like sewing. Does that ever happen to you??! Hmmm. Now to come up with another project….

Someone told me recently I should crochet baby blankets. I don’t know about that as I haven’t done too well with afghans. But that is what I started this afternoon. I have 3 or so rows done and it is going very well. The pattern I decided on though has quite a few ‘holes’ in it for the poor baby to get his fingers caught in so it might just turn into a wrap or lap robe of some kind. I am using small yarn: baby weight or sport weight whatever it’s called. And a large hook: size I. So hopefully it won’t take too long to get it done!

Tomorrow I will probably go back to normal projects again. It has been fun though to spend a day doing out of the ordinary things.

One of the ordinary things I did do was get more listings on eBay. You can see them here.

Crocheted Traditional Hair Nets / Bun Covers Amish Mennonite

29 Jun

I also have hair nets available in the traditional net style. They are the same size as the flower style and they have the same style elastic in the back. I can also make these in any of the other colors I use. I just don’t have them all made up right now. It doesn’t take long to make them. You can find these hair nets in my Etsy Shop.

Large Black and White Hairnets

28 Jun

I got the large black flower style hair net/bun cover listed in my Etsy shop yesterday. I was feeling kind of out-of-it so I didn’t get much listed this week yet. I got the large white flower hair net listed this morning. This is now all the colors in this style I have available. The others were the brown and light brown.

If you have long and or thick hair and need a hair net with plenty of room, these large nets would be just the thing!

Contentment

28 Jun

Sometimes when I am “sitting around” crocheting, I think of all the things I wish I could be doing instead. That has not been very beneficial to me, as you can imagine.

Lately I have been trying to be more content with where God has me right now. I feel much better when I think that God created me and loves me just the way I am. It is much more profitable to thank God for what He has done for me and to trust Him for the future.

Ps 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. (NKJV)

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. (NKJV)

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. (NKJV)

Recently I read a book by Linda Dillow called Calm My Anxious Heart. I was a bit surprised when the main subject in her book was contentment. After I read through (most of) it, it did make a lot of sense. If I am content with my lot in life and what’s going on around me, I am trusting in God and not being anxious.

With Jesus Christ in my life it is possible to be content in what I am doing when I see my work as work for Him. He blesses me with peace and helps me to be thankful for everything He has done for me.

If you missed the last article in the “Something to Think On” category you can read it here or click on the category link in the side column.

Is there things that help you be content? I’d love to hear about how the Lord is working your life!
