New Year

4 Jan

Lately I have been thinking about using this blog again.  Clean it up and keep it up to date.  When I started looking at it yesterday, it was a little overwhelming!  Where do I start?!  You may see a few changes here and hopefully some updates.  But don’t be surprised if I ditch the whole thing and start over!  A lot of the information here is still useful and or relevant, but there is stuff that is way out of date and has nothing to do with my current life and business. 🙂  One problem I am having is WordPress has changed a lot while I haven’t been blogging and I am trying to relearn how to use it.

Happy New Year!  Let us trust the future to our ever faithful God whose mercies are new every morning!

Family Times -Painting Jars

27 Nov

The other day my niece and I painted glass jars to use as candle holders.  I never did this before, but it turned out pretty good.  We used all shapes and sizes of jars so we have a nice assortment.  My nephew decided it was time to sample all of his bottles!

Happy Holidays

19 Nov

I hope you have a blessed holiday season! I am looking forward to it! Especially as my Sister and family plan to come visit soon!! My blog will also be having a holiday.  Since I was sick I have been having trouble fitting everything in and looking forward to the holidays I’m quite sure it’s not going to get easier.  I have gifts I want to make, I would like to go to the flea market a couple more times, family activities… So in prioritizing, the blog kinda gets the back burner.  I will try to post sometimes, but not making any promises! This was taken at the flea market last Saturday. I was freezing cold!! Not sure why I look so solemn, though. I had a good time. (Between Shivers) 🙂

Busy Hands

25 Oct

Although I haven’t much energy, my hands have found plenty to keep busy with! When I came home, I had several purchases on eBay and Etsy to mail. That is when I realized my inventory is down again! I was looking forward to spending several weeks doing ‘fun’ projects before getting back to ‘work’! 🙂  Oh, I don’t really mind crocheting hair nets at all, it’s just that doing the same thing over and over and over, gets a little old sometimes.

Between crocheting hair nets, though, I have snuck in some other projects. I have an afghan I have been working on. I tried to make a goal of doing 3 rows a day so it doesn’t take me a year to get it done! I have also started a new project on my new knitting loom, but I’ll wait to tell you about that til after the Christmas presents are given. 😉  The other day I also made a card for someone. It seems like such a little thing, but it’s so amazing how much energy those little things take, when you just have. no. energy.

Time seems to be moving rather slowly.  Looking back it seems I was in the hospital a long time.  It has some kind of dream quality where every day blended into the next.  Now it seems I have been home a long time.  Is it really just 7 days?  The days themselves don’t feel long though.  That is a blessing.  Until I get all my meds in, rest, eat, crochet a bit….  Not much time left.  Everything seems to take a long time since I have so little energy.  I am so thankful for the things I can do.  I thank the Lord for the ability to crochet and do other hand work even when I can’t do much else.

I have managed to list some items on eBay and Etsy again, too. Yesterday I listed this set of 3 hair nets on eBay and I hope to get it on Etsy soon, too.  There is one Burgundy, one gray, and one white.  As always, you save a bit of money by buying a set of 3! 🙂

Blessings

23 Oct

Being away for 11 days brings the blessings of home and family sharply into focus! I have so much to be thankful for. In short, I am so glad to be home!!!  What a blessing to be surrounded with family who loves me and wants to care for me. The challenge is to accept the love and care instead of wishing for the independence I would so much prefer.

It’s so comforting to be in your own home. My own bed, my own computer, my own nebulizer and other equipment, a friendly living room, the familiar kitchen. The list goes on and on. Things I seldom think about until I’ve been out of it.

The physical things of my home aren’t the things that bring the most comfort however.  It is the presence of a loving family. The knowing that their care comes from love, not just a job or a nice thing to do.

Absence of things also contributes to the comforting atmosphere of home. Lack of nurses, lack of noise, lack of machines, lack of doctors. All those are so important, but when I get home where none of them are, I feel like I am getting closer to that land of “health” where I am hoping to get to one of these days. To sleep the whole night through without being woke up…. ahhhhhhh

God is so good!  He met my needs in the hospital. He let me feel the comfort and strength of family and hospital staff.  Now He is seeing me through each day.  I can face each challenge, each struggle because I know the He is right here with me each step of the way.  God is in control of everything happening!

Maybe Tomorrow

16 Oct

I have heard this phrase many times in the last week! I have ‘moved into’ the hospital a week ago, the intent being to clear the junk out of my lungs. After a couple days they started saying ‘maybe tomorrow’ you can go home. It appears that the junk in my lungs has settled in pretty good and is putting up a good fight against the good guys, otherwise known as antibiotics.  The good news is that the bug is sensitive to several antibiotics.

I have been reading a lot and not worrying about my stores, which has been a great blessing. Now that I have Internet access, thanks to my SIL’s iPad, my customers have been very understanding.

The Lord is so faithful and the best of Friends to those who are weak.  One verse that has really been a blessing to me is “in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15 I am very confident God has everything in His control and knows how it is going to work out, therefore I try my best, through His strength, to be ‘quiet’, or calm.

I will be extremely happy when ‘maybe tomorrow’ turns into ToDay!! I am thinking of all the things I would like to crochet when I get home. 🙂 Obviously, it will be awhile before normal comes back, but it’s always good to feel like I’m on the right path.

God bless you with a very lovely day!

Crocheting Inventory

2 Aug

Otherwise known as recuperating from illness! 🙂When I got sick last week, I decided to see how much of this:I could turn into this:The result is that I have lots of “inventory” hair nets now. 😉 That’s always good as I have already been caught not having a particular hair net made.  This isn’t usually a problem as I can made them up in an hour or two, but it always feels better to be a step ahead. I have been doing other projects as well, to save my hands and to keep from going “crazy”! I get really sick of doing the same thing over and over. As usual my stack of books has been rather distracting! I also got out a baby afghan I started a long time ago and finished that the other day. That was fun! I started another blanket yesterday so who knows how long that will take. The problem with alternating projects like that is that I try to crochet loose for the blankets and then my hair nets start getting bigger, too, as I am still in that mode. So I have to remember to switch modes in my head and my fingers!

Vacation!

30 Jun

I had a wonderful vacation the end of May/beginning of June. I traveled with a friend to Kansas and to Illinois. I had a great time with friends and family. In Kansas I helped my young friends learn how to make my towel toppers and my gift bags. That was fun. I hadn’t planned to do that, so I didn’t have any patterns or anything a long. But we figured it out!

I really enjoyed my Aunt’s rose garden Illinois. She has beautiful roses!

When I came home, I had a little time adjusting back to the heat -and the allergies! So it took me awhile to get back into my sewing and other projects. I started with the easy projects. I had bought a bunch of fabric before I left to make bags, but didn’t get them sewn up. I was getting a little worried that the colors are to ‘springy’, but I finally sold 2 pink ones today!

While I was on vacation, my shop was not. My Mom, bless her heart!, shipped my orders for me! That was so nice of her and was nice to be able to keep the Etsy shop open. I didn’t renew auctions on eBay so that wasn’t going the whole time I was gone.

When I did start feeling better after my trip, it was time to do some sewing for the family. Mom and I sewed about 5 dresses in about 3 days. Those were for my two nieces. I made them look-a-likes because I knew they were going to be together.

Now down to business. In the next few weeks, I need to get lots of towel tops sewn and the rest of my bags. I also have some ideas for a new project. I haven’t had time to try it out though.

I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Prednisone Free!

1 May

Saturday was my last day of Prednisone!! I am very excited. It’s not usually such a big deal, but this time I was on it for 2 months. That was a long time for me and I am very happy to finally be off. I guess it was a lesson in patience if nothing else. 🙂 I am hoping that since the weather is warmer again, that I will be able to stay on top of things better.

Have a great day!

Tomato Adventure

23 Apr

This weekend I took a break from sewing, not that I was getting that much done anyway. Thursday Mom got a bunch of tomatoes so we changed our Girls Sewing Day planned for Friday into a Tomato Canning Day. Thursday afternoon I cleaned up the kitchen so we could take off bright and early Friday morning.I didn’t get this picture until after we had started. We actually had 9 boxes of tomatoes and 1 box of celery.

A very willing helper! She worked hard all day.

We made Pizza Sauce from a recipe Mom had from Granny:

Later we also made another recipe we got from my sister.

We did most of the canning outside on the camp stove so the house wouldn’t be so hot! The weather here really turned warm last week. Saturday we started our A/C.

We also made stewed tomatoes and whole tomatoes. And a bunch of salsa. The salsa recipe we got from my sister.

Grandma taking a break with the children.

Supervisor! 🙂 He actually did very well all day. In the evening I had him in my bed and he fell asleep. For about 2 minutes. Then he was happy and just lay there and played and kicked. It was cooler in there than in the living room so I think he was more comfortable. I didn’t get any sleep until he went back out.

Our finished product! 🙂

Something about canned food looks so beautiful and homey. And it makes the work worth it!

I was completely exhausted that night. I sat in the rocking chair to cut up my last tomatoes. 😉 The next morning I got up and ate breakfast with the family. Then after a warm shower, I headed back to bed with a book, a jar of Powerade, and a quart of tea. After two days of mostly rest and extra breathing treatments, I am getting some of my energy back.

I just recently found out about PicMonkey. I had fun editing some of these pictures with their program. Have any of you ever used that? I found out about it on this blog. She has a lot of nice pictures.

Ps. We didn’t get the tomatoes all done. Brittany and Mom are working on them today again. I think this will be the last day.

Hi Again!

30 Mar

This blog kinda sorta died out at the end of last year. It seems blogging isn’t really my Thing. The main Thing is I’m busy doing other things that seem a little more important to me. I was quite surprised when I logged in and saw that people are still actually looking at the blog! Right now I’m going to post some pictures of my recent life (a very small part of it, that is). I’m not sure where, if, or when this blog is going so I won’t comment on that right now.

Sewing Space - Cleaned & Organized

Sewing Space - Cleaned & Organized View 2

Recently I have been slowly working on cleaning up and organizing my sewing space. (I don’t have a sewing “room” so I’m calling it my “sewing space”.) It’s nothing fancy and it’s not done yet, but it’s working out well for now. My sewing space has become a little more important as I have been adding different products to my Etsy shop.

We enjoyed beautiful snow March 18 & 19! It was pretty cold, but very pretty while it lasted. This week we have enjoyed signs of Spring again!

Have a blessed weekend!

Old Congress Days

3 Oct

The big day is past now! I set up a booth at the local Old Congress Days event. It was a lot of fun even though I didn’t sell all that much. Mom & Dad were there to help – I couldn’t have done it with out them!

I had a bunch of the hanging hand towels on display. And I had the big doily out.The table above held greeting cards and denim blankets. On the other table I had my doilies, hairnets, and baby hats & booties.

Here are some of my doilies. This table met with disaster, well all of them did, but the white doilies got the worst of things. In the afternoon we got wind and a dust storm. Everything started flying. We took our stuff down early and lots of others did, too. Everyone was hanging onto their tents so they wouldn’t go crashing around. The lady behind me had a rough time as she was selling Scentsy -lots of breakables! While Mom & Dad finished our booth, I helped them box up the warmers.

Since I didn’t sell much at Congress Days, I now have all this inventory for my online stores! I hope to get it posted in the next couple weeks.

Blogging Vacation

22 Aug

Last week I took an unplanned blogging vacation! That doesn’t mean I wasn’t busy though! Two doctor appointments took up quite a bit of time, plus getting more (*hopefully*) done here at home. I did get my desk cleaned up, my inventory hair nets and doilies organized, some booking keeping done, some sewing, and crocheting of course.

Now I am trying to come up with a blogging schedule that won’t be so overwhelming. I was trying to post every day and for now I will only be posting 3 times a week or less. The main reason for that is because I signed up to be a vendor at a local event: Old Congress Days. So now I am crocheting furiously to make sure I have enough stuff to display. 🙂 I’m sure it will be ok, I’m just stressing. I plan to have my crocheted hair nets and doilies there and some hanging hand towels. Mom is also working on some sewing projects to add to this collection. I was hoping to have a finished denim blanket, but we will see…

That event is October 1, so this is what I will be working on the next month. I am also working on school dresses for my niece. Two nieces in school! I really am getting old……… 🙂

Here are a few things I got listed on Etsy Last week:

Greeting Card Printable PDF Prickly Pear Cactus Hearts 3 Thi…
This is the third printable greeting card with prickly pear cactus in the picture. This is one of my favorites.

Doily Tablecloth 26″ Cotton Natural Color HandCrochete…

I finally got this huge doily done! I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to sell it or not, but here it is. It measures about 26″ across. Perfect for a small end table or as a centerpiece on a large table.

Hair Net / Bun Cover Crocheted Brown Flower Style Amish Menn…

I listed the brown hair net again as it had sold awhile ago.

Be sure and visit my shop and browse all the items! 🙂

Answered Prayers

11 Aug

Tuesday I went in for my monthly IVIG. I always get a bit nervous when I go in because they usually have trouble starting the IV. (Yes, I drink lots of water! 🙂 )

We were pleasantly surprised and very thankful when the IV went in on the very first try this time!! 🙂 I often pray as they go to try for it and this time the nurse said she was praying real hard before she started! So we were both rejoicing for answered prayers.  Don’t ever give up on prayer! God always answers! Sometimes it isn’t the answer we want, but God always knows best.

If you are wondering what IVIG is I’ll tell you a little about it. (If not you can skip this paragraph.) Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) contains IgG (immunoglobulin). That is the part of your blood that is your immune system; it helps prevent infection, ect.  Mine IgG levels were low so they have been giving me the IVIG to help keep me from getting sick so often. It has been helping a lot! Since I have started getting the IVIG about 4 years ago, I have only been in the hospital once or twice a year. I am very thankful for that!

I meant to write this post yesterday, but I got busy doing laundry and other things around the house. It is fun to do the laundry here where it dries almost in minutes. 🙂 But it gets kinda hot hanging it out sometimes.  The last couple times I did laundry I ended up with a black and blue load. 🙂 My brothers uniforms are dark blue so there are a lot of dark shirts. Here is some of them.

eBay, Etsy.com, eCrater.com ???

3 Aug

Sometimes all these “e” words get confusing! Right now I have an account on all of them and trying to figure out if it I need all of them. Do you have any advice? Here is how I got here:

I began selling stuff on eBay. When I started, I sold used stuff mostly and slowly transitioned into mostly selling my handmade items. That has worked out great most of the time. My big problem with eBay is the seller fees are very expensive. They have continued to rise since I started selling there. Right now, I only have one fixed price listing left on there. I have left it on because I am still getting sales from it. I guess a couple of sales is better than nothing even though the fees are high.

That is how I became interested in Etsy.com. Their fees are much more reasonable. I enjoy Etsy, but it is more difficult to get sales there. It takes a lot more work to promote your shop, etc. I don’t mind the work, but I have to decide that it’s ok to put so much effort in that shop, if I don’t have time to do everything. Or what if I put all that effort in and still don’t get sales?

Recently I found eCrater.com. That site is similar to Etsy in that it takes more work to promote your shop, but there are some things about it similar to eBay. The main thing is that I can sell a variety of things, not just handmade things. Right now I have some of my excess coupons listed on there. The other thing I just discovered is the listing fees are totally free from what I understand! Wow. I don’t know for sure as I haven’t made a sale yet.

If you have any thoughts on this subject, I would love to hear from you!

Another thing, I have planned for my Etsy shop is to get a new banner and/or logo. One thing I have learned is that my name should have more to do with the products I sell! I’m not sure if I’m ready to start over with a new shop, though. For starters I asked my SIL to help me design a new banner. She is better at that stuff than I am. Any ideas for us?

I don’t have ads on my blog from my Etsy and eCrater shops because… um, I don’t know how to get them to work! The widgets don’t communicate with my blog and I haven’t figured out how to fix them yet. So hopefully soon you’ll see better stuff on here…………. 😉 If you have suggestions I am open to advice!

Rejoice with Me!

3 Aug

I wrote before that I was not feeling very well. I am rejoicing that I feel better now! I still don’t feel quite normal yet, but I am SOO Thankful for all the Lord has done for me in bringing me this far!! I have been off antibiotics for 6 days and today I took my last Prednisone! 🙂 Very Exciting. (I still feel like I have my Prednisone appetite though!)

I am also thankful for the 3 sales I had over the weekend! That is very exciting. I sold one hair net on eBay. The other two sales were from Etsy: tayafaith bought the set of 3 hair nets that I listed last week. I have another listing like that here. The other sale was from mommaroz for two handtowels. Check out my shop and see what deals you can find! 🙂

Couponing and Other Things

26 Jul

I enjoy getting good deals, but I am not an “extreme couponer” as it’s little difficult here since we live so far away from the stores. You can’t just run in and pick up a few little items when there is great prices. I do try to save some coupons though and today I had fun getting a few great deals! It is very exciting to go to CVS and the receipt says “Today You Saved: $20.33!! Wow. I only spent $12.40 plus I got $3.99 ECB. I wasn’t expecting the savings to be that high, but I found a pack of Emergen-C for 75% off.

For help with couponing and frugal living ideas, I enjoy following the Money Saving Mom blog. I also like the lists that My Frugal Adventures does for shopping at CVS. They are a BIG help!

We also went to Target this afternoon. My bill there wasn’t as good, but still got some deals. My sis-in-law got two pillows for .50 each! That was definitely worth it.

I was a little nervous about planning a coupon shopping trip when I still don’t feel that great. It’s hard enough to think through deals with a clear head! But everything went well. I do feel completely exhausted now. The 107 degrees didn’t help much. I hope to rest up the rest of the week. At least part of the week. We do have plans for helping make freezer jam, putting up sweet corn, and sewing school uniform jumpers sometime this week!

I saw one of my doctors today, but he didn’t really comment on how I am doing. He just oversees my IVIG. I did get a report from my Pulmonologist on Monday that my chest x-ray shows no new issues. That was very good news! So now I am hoping to soon feel normal again… To be able to do simple tasks without becoming exhausted… I always forget how long it takes to get well again… Then I get to this stage where I am tempted to become impatient. So just now I am trying to focus on counting my blessings instead of the “I wishes”.

I didn’t get my Something to Think On post for today up yet, but I hope to do that soon. I hope you have a blessed week!

Crocheting in Sickness and in Health

21 Jul

One reason I love to crochet is because I can do it while I am sick. It gives me something to do with my hands (keeping my mind occupied) and keeps me from feeling completely useless! Of course it’s much more fun when I feel well, but I still enjoy it all the time.

Here are some things I have been working on the last week and a half or so while I haven’t been feeling good:

Crocheted Rose

I wasn’t completely satisfied with my rose, because I didn’t think it rolled very nice. I need to keep practicing that one!

Crocheted Socks

I love making socks because it seems like something more useful that people could actually use. This pair is for me; I wanted to see how they wear and how they wash. They turned out pretty good! The drawback with socks is that the yarn makes my hands really sore.

Besides this I am still working on my baby afghan and also on baby hats and booties. I love doing the hats and booties because they are so cute and don’t take long. I usually have a short attentions span when not feeling well. I’ll try to tell you more about the patterns I use in another post.

I have also worked some on my “Big Project”.

Holiday & New eBay listings

4 Jul

Hello! I hope had a great weekend and are enjoying a relaxing day! I had a nice weekend. Yesterday was a blessing to be in church and to fellowship with Christian friends. Last night we were also blessed with a wonderful rain shower!! We here in AZ love rain showers as they don’t come very often. When we saw it was probably going to rain, my brother and I took our hammocks out to the front porch (it has a roof over it). It was so much fun to lay there and enjoy the rain and the lightening. It did get really windy though and we came running in when we started getting soaked! I realize though that many parts of the US won’t call a rain shower a blessing as they have ‘too much’ water.

I didn’t do anything to celebrate the holiday today, but I did have fun working on different projects around the house in a relaxed frame of mind. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my projects done, so I can’t really say I did much! I cut out a bag I’ve been wanting to make. Actually, I cut out a practice, because I don’t want to use the material I have picked out until I know if my idea is going to work.

I have really been into bags lately. I made one for my sister-in-law for her baby shower. I planned to do a game involving a diaper bag, however I had no diaper bag to use!! So I quickly threw together a simple bag here about the day before the party. Then I made her little girl a matching one for her 5th birthday. Sorry I don’t have pictures to show you. I will take pictures of this one I am making now, if it turns out ok. 🙂

When I was done with that, I sat down at my sewing machine for about 2 minutes and decided I didn’t feel like sewing. Does that ever happen to you??! Hmmm. Now to come up with another project….

Someone told me recently I should crochet baby blankets. I don’t know about that as I haven’t done too well with afghans. But that is what I started this afternoon. I have 3 or so rows done and it is going very well. The pattern I decided on though has quite a few ‘holes’ in it for the poor baby to get his fingers caught in so it might just turn into a wrap or lap robe of some kind. I am using small yarn: baby weight or sport weight whatever it’s called. And a large hook: size I. So hopefully it won’t take too long to get it done!

Tomorrow I will probably go back to normal projects again. It has been fun though to spend a day doing out of the ordinary things.

One of the ordinary things I did do was get more listings on eBay. You can see them here.

What a day!

1 Jul

Yesterday was a day of all trades! 😀 In the morning for a couple of hours I worked on making cards for a couple of hours. I was tired of my pictures and other supplies just lying around and attacked it with a vengeance. (Looks like my next project should be cleaning my desk!) 😦

For another couple of hours or more, I worked on making tops for towels. That is an easy project that keeps me occupied even when I don’t have much motivation.

Stages of a towel top

(It’s not as complicated as it looks. 🙂 )

In the afternoon, I had to take a break and go to a doctor appointment. There I learned I had lost 8 pounds, which really surprised me. (So that’s why I can get into the dresses I couldn’t wear for a while!) I didn’t think it was a big deal, but the doctor asked me what’s going on? I said, “Stress”.  Her quick  reply was “Do you want something to help with your stress?” The way she said it threw me off for a bit. My simple mind was thinking “What can help my stress besides trusting God?!” Before long, I figured out what she was saying and convinced her it wasn’t that kind of stress. I don’t think pills take stress away anyway, they just help you forget! So I think I will be a little more diligent and make sure I take my enzymes (and try not to worry). It’s so hot around here though, no one feels like eating anyway.

After that stressful ( 🙂 ) break, I went back to sewing towels and got them all finished! (Sigh of Relief) I sat down last night to list them and possibly post on here, which turned into editing pictures and listening to music. Oh well, sometimes there’s more important things in life.

To finish out the day I climbed into bed and started reading my new library book. I meant to read only for 30 minutes or so but the book was so captivating all of a sudden I realized I read about half of it. I will tell you more about the book, when I have read all of it.

I hope you have a great day! God Loves You!

ps. Yesterday was a good day for me! I love variety. 😉
